A new insider report has reignited speculation around a potential remake of the original Halo trilogy, following comments attributed to Microsoft Gaming executive Matt Booty and newly surfaced details from a former Halo Studios developer. The claims were shared by Rebs Gaming, who framed the information as circumstantial but noteworthy, particularly in the context of Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox 25th anniversary.
According to the report, Matt Booty may have accidentally referenced a broader Halo remake project during an interview published by Variety on December 11. While discussing future Halo plans, Booty was quoted as saying, “We have announced things like the Halo Campaign Evolved collection that we have coming, and we have a lot of other things that we will talk about soon.” The phrasing of Campaign Evolved collection immediately raised questions, as it implies a set of campaigns rather than a single title. Rebs Gaming suggested this wording could align with internal plans to remake the original Halo trilogy campaigns, though no official clarification has been provided.
The insider also addressed recent coverage of Halo Studios’ use of generative AI, stating that multiple outlets misrepresented his earlier reporting. He emphasized that generative AI is being used selectively to assist development workflows and certain types of in-game content, not as a replacement for traditional development across all areas. He further noted that not all developers at Halo Studios use generative AI, and that it is not mandatory.
As part of this clarification, Rebs Gaming referenced comments from Halo Studios video producer and motion designer Nikolai Balton, who previously stated that he does not use generative AI and is not forced to do so. He also pointed to public activity from senior UI technical artist Braden Leak, who shared personal projects involving large language models and generative AI tools, suggesting a mixed but transparent internal stance on the technology.
Beyond the Booty comment, the report highlighted the recent departure of concept artist Elijah McNeel from Halo Studios after three years. McNeel’s LinkedIn profile reportedly lists work on Campaign Evolved as well as multiple unannounced Halo projects. This has been interpreted as an indication that at least two unannounced Halo titles are currently in development alongside Campaign Evolved.
McNeel’s profile also notes his involvement in establishing the next-generation visual design for the Flood. His departure was described as notable given the apparent scale and importance of the projects underway, though no reasons for the move were discussed.
Taken together, the comments attributed to Matt Booty and the details from McNeel’s profile have fueled renewed discussion around a possible Halo trilogy campaign remake. However, all information remains unofficial, and neither Microsoft nor Halo Studios has formally confirmed the existence or scope of a Campaign Evolved collection.
