Report Suggests Actors in Contention to Play Kratos in Amazon’s God of War Series

Speculation surrounding the upcoming God of War live-action series has intensified after film and television insider John Campea shared a list of actors he believes are in the running to portray Kratos. While Campea emphasized that his information is a mixture of industry chatter and personal preference, his track record with past leaks — including accurate details on Spider-Man: No Way Home and Keanu Reeves’ casting as Shadow — has given weight to the claims.

According to Campea, the following names have been mentioned in connection with the role: Winston Duke, Joe Manganiello, Christopher Judge, Manu Bennett, Jason Momoa, Travis Fimmel, Oliver Ritchers, and Dave Bautista. The range of actors suggests Amazon is considering both established screen presences and physically imposing performers who can capture Kratos’ commanding persona.

The timing of this discussion is notable, as Amazon’s long-awaited God of War adaptation is finally advancing toward production. Filming is slated to begin in March 2026 in Vancouver, marking a pivotal step for one of Prime Video’s most ambitious projects. The series will be spearheaded by Ronald D. Moore, known for Outlander and Battlestar Galactica, who will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Moore is joined by a writers’ room stacked with genre talent, including Matthew Graham (Electric Dreams), Stephanie Shannon (For All Mankind), Narendra K. Shankar (The Expanse), Joe Menosky (Star Trek: Discovery), Marc D. Bernardin (The Continental), and Tania Lotia (The Witcher). This creative team signals Amazon’s intent to give the adaptation a strong narrative foundation.

The show’s first season will adapt the 2018 God of War video game, which reintroduced the franchise with a shift from Greek to Norse mythology. The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus on their journey to scatter the ashes of Kratos’ late wife, setting them on a path through the harsh and mysterious Norse realms.

Although no official casting decisions have been confirmed, the emerging shortlist has fueled speculation among fans eager to see who will take on the mantle of Kratos. With production scheduled to begin next year, Amazon is expected to finalize and announce casting in the coming months.
