Ubisoft may be preparing to roll out 60 FPS updates for older Assassin’s Creed titles, with Assassin’s Creed Unity potentially among the first to receive the upgrade. The information comes from industry insider Tom Henderson during a recent podcast, who suggested that the publisher is beginning a similar performance update strategy to what it recently implemented for the Far Cry series.
Henderson pointed to Ubisoft’s recent actions as an indicator of what may come next. He said, “They’ve just done like the Far Cry 60fps roll out, right? I think they’re now starting that with Assassin’s Creed and I believe Unity might be one of the first ones to get a 60fps update.” While Ubisoft has not officially confirmed these plans, the comments imply that internal work may already be underway.
The Far Cry franchise previously received performance updates that enabled higher frame rates on modern consoles, extending the lifespan of older releases without full remasters. Henderson’s remarks suggest Ubisoft could now be applying the same approach to Assassin’s Creed, one of its longest-running and most commercially important franchises. If accurate, this would mark a notable technical refresh for several legacy titles.
Assassin’s Creed Unity stands out as a likely candidate due to its original technical ambitions. The game was designed as a showcase title for eighth-generation hardware, featuring dense crowds, detailed environments, and an upgraded engine. Despite its visual strengths, the title has historically been associated with performance issues at launch, making a modern frame rate upgrade particularly relevant.
Released in November 2014, Assassin’s Creed Unity is set during the French Revolution in 18th-century Paris. Players take on the role of Arno Dorian, a young nobleman drawn into the Assassin Brotherhood as he investigates the forces manipulating the political chaos of the era. The game places a strong emphasis on stealth, refined parkour mechanics, and urban traversal across a densely recreated Paris.
At present, there has been no formal announcement from Ubisoft regarding a timeline or list of Assassin’s Creed titles slated for performance updates. Henderson’s comments suggest that Unity may be prioritized, but it remains unclear which platforms would be targeted or whether additional games in the series would follow.
