New details about the future of the Resident Evil franchise have been shared by well-known insider AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, outlining Capcom’s potential roadmap for upcoming titles and remakes in the long-running survival horror series.
According to the insider, the next mainline entry following Resident Evil 9 is already in development, though its release could still be several years away. “RE ‘10’ (likely won’t be called that) is in dev, it’s hoping to release in 2029 IF all goes well in dev, but could slip back to as late as 2031 based off the whims of game dev,” Dusk Golem said in a series of posts on X.
The insider also stated that downloadable content for Resident Evil 9 is currently in development. However, he clarified that reports suggesting multiple expansions are planned are inaccurate. “RE9 DLC is in the works, there’s some crossing of wires going around saying I said there’s 2 DLCs, but I never said that. I’ve just said I know RE9 DLC is comin, but honestly just know bits & pieces about it.”
In terms of upcoming remakes, Dusk Golem claims that a remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica is the next major title expected from Capcom. According to the insider, the project could be revealed later this year with a planned release window in 2027.
Another remake reportedly in development is Resident Evil Zero. The insider suggested the project is targeting a 2028 release window. At the same time, he pushed back on rumors about a Resident Evil 5 remake, stating clearly that such a project is not currently being developed.
As for the possibility of a new Resident Evil remake of the original 1996 game, Dusk Golem said the idea has been discussed internally but is still in a very early stage. “An RE1 Remake has been tossed around in a pre production, but I want to clarify something. While that is likely to be a thing sooner or later, it’s really too early to say anything conclusively. Even if dev went smoothly, that’d be like 4 to 7 years away.”
The insider also revealed that several Resident Evil projects have reportedly been cancelled in recent years. These include a HUNK-focused game, an attempt at Resident Evil Revelations 3 featuring Rebecca Chambers, a multiplayer-focused version of Resident Evil 9, and a Wesker-focused project known internally as Resident Evil Outrage.
According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil Outrage was intended to function as a narrative add-on connected to Resident Evil Re: Verse, similar to how Resident Evil Resistance accompanied Resident Evil 3. The cancelled project reportedly followed Albert Wesker after the events of Code Veronica, with the character operating under the alias “Michael Baxter” while dealing with injuries from his battle with Alexia.
As with most insider reports, none of these details have been officially confirmed by Capcom. However, the information offers a possible look at how the company’s plans for the Resident Evil series may unfold over the next several years.
