A trusted Resident Evil insider has shared new details on the future of Capcom’s survival horror franchise. According to AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, a remake of Resident Evil 5 is currently not in development. While acknowledging that strong fan demand could influence Capcom’s plans in the future, the insider emphasized that no such project is being worked on at this time.
Responding to community questions on social media, Dusk Golem shifted attention toward Resident Evil Code Veronica, which is said to be progressing very well. He described the remake as being on track, even ahead of its internal schedule, and likened its quality to that of the Resident Evil 4 remake. The insider noted that the project is being handled by the same team responsible for several of Capcom’s most acclaimed recent remakes, including Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
In his posts, Dusk Golem elaborated on several aspects of the reimagining. Steve Burnside, a central character, will still maintain his crush on Claire Redfield, though his personality is being reworked to appear less intrusive and more awkwardly curious. Albert Wesker will play a larger role, with the H.C.F. organization becoming a main plot element. His confrontation with Chris Redfield is now positioned as a major boss fight. Meanwhile, Rockfort Island has been redesigned into a semi-open world environment, and players will be able to traverse it using Claire’s motorcycle, repaired early in the game.
The remake is also directed by Yasuhiro Anpo and Kazunori Kadoi, the duo behind both the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. According to Dusk Golem, the title is being developed as a full mainline release with a significant budget, rather than a smaller side project.
While Resident Evil 5 fans may be left waiting, the focus on Code Veronica signals Capcom’s continued investment in bringing older entries of the franchise to a modern audience. With Resident Evil 9 also on the horizon, the franchise appears to have a busy future ahead.
