Resident Evil 7 on Switch 2 Matches PS5 Performance, Surpasses PS4 in New Comparison

by Salal Awan

A recent comparison highlights the technical differences between Resident Evil 7 on Nintendo Switch 2 and its PlayStation counterparts, showing that the new version performs on par with the PlayStation 5 while clearly surpassing the PlayStation 4 edition.

According to the comparison, the Switch 2 release features graphical settings that closely mirror those found on PS5. In nearly every visual category, it goes beyond what was achieved on PS4. Texture quality, overall image clarity, and general presentation appear to align more closely with Sony’s current-generation hardware than with its previous console.

The one notable omission on Switch 2 is Ray Tracing. Even so, the absence is described as minor, as the enhancements provided by the feature on PS5 were not considered particularly substantial. In fact, some screen space reflections visible on Switch 2 are reportedly lost when PS5 runs in Ray Tracing mode, creating an unexpected trade off between the two versions.

Performance is another strong point. Resident Evil 7 on Switch 2 runs at a stable 60 frames per second, matching the performance target of the PS5 release. The consistency of the frame rate reinforces the sense that this is a fully realized native port rather than a compromised adaptation.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition launched natively on Switch 2 on February 27, 2026. The release marks a significant step up from the Cloud Version previously available on the original Switch. The Gold Edition includes all downloadable content, such as Not a Hero and End of Zoe, and arrived alongside Resident Evil Village and the newly released Resident Evil Requiem.

While the game remains widely available on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, where it is frequently discounted, the Switch 2 version stands out for delivering high-quality portable performance. For players entering the series for the first time, it represents a strong and technically impressive option.
