Resident Evil 9 Leak Suggests First and Third-Person Modes, Second Playable Character Possibly Returning Fan Favorite

by Salal Awan

New information regarding Resident Evil 9 has surfaced through a recent leak on Reddit, providing an early glimpse into some of the key gameplay features that players can expect in Capcom’s anticipated sequel. A user who claims to have accessed a pre-release demo shared several screenshots along with descriptions of mechanics and characters, sparking widespread discussion among the series’ fanbase.

According to the details revealed, Resident Evil 9 will allow players to switch freely between first and third-person camera perspectives. This dual-view system follows the series trend established in recent entries, offering players the choice of a more immersive, close-quarters experience or a wider third-person view, reminiscent of the style seen in the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. The demo apparently demonstrated this flexibility by transitioning smoothly between the two perspectives during gameplay.

The leak also mentions the presence of a second playable character, described as a familiar figure from the franchise’s past who will come equipped with a significant arsenal of weapons. While the identity of this character has not been officially confirmed, early speculation points towards Leon S. Kennedy—a fan-favorite protagonist known for his combat proficiency in previous entries. This second character has yet to be formally revealed by Capcom, but the source claims that developers hinted at their role during the private demo session.

One of the demo sequences reportedly featured a character named Grace, who was shown exploring an environment by opening doors and activating light switches. During the sequence, Grace was attacked by an unknown monster, suffering a shoulder wound that she treated with a syringe rather than the series’ traditional healing sprays. This small detail suggests potential gameplay changes in how healing items are managed, possibly introducing new mechanics into the franchise’s survival system.

The Reddit user, posting under the handle Nicky_Best, stated that the demo session lasted approximately thirty minutes and emphasized the ability to play the entire game using either viewpoint preference. The user mentioned that the embargo on official media coverage is expected to lift later today, which could provide additional clarity and confirmation of the leaked information. They also shared a new set of screenshots.

Resident Evil 9 is currently slated to launch on February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
