Additionally, known insider Dusk Golem (aka AestheticGamer) took to Twitter/X to share a summary of everything they have claimed about Resident Evil 9 over the years. In his summary, it is mentioned that  the game’s original scrapped version was an open world co-op game set on a fictional Singapore island. Based on what he’s heard, the final game is no longer set in the country and doesn’t feature an open world . He added that there are big areas, but it’s not a sandbox. Jill Valentine was the co-op partner in this initial version of Resident Evil 9, but she doesn’t play a major role in the final version, which is now a single-player experience.

According to Golem, Leon is still the main character of Resident Evil 9. The game is viewed as “the conclusion of his trilogy,” carrying over character elements from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.  He further stated that while it will feature only one campaign, Leon won’t be the only playable character. That said, he is still the is the main character.

The insider further said that the setting in Resident Evil 9 has a really strong gothic horror atmosphere that is very “witchy.” According to him, before the release of Resident Evil Village, Capcom had considered dropping numbers from the titles of future entries, a trend the ninth game is expected to continue.
