Capcom has offered the first proper look at Resident Evil Requiem gameplay in a recent presentation ahead of Gamescom 2025. The footage was shared as part of an Nvidia update highlighting the latest RTX-powered technologies, positioning the ninth mainline entry in the long-running survival horror franchise as one of the most visually advanced titles in the series.
The presentation framed Resident Evil Requiem as a landmark release that builds on the franchise’s thirty-year legacy of graphical and gameplay innovation. From the original game’s fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds to the fully immersive third-person perspective of Resident Evil 4, the series has consistently pushed the boundaries of interactive horror. With Requiem, Capcom is aiming to achieve real-time visuals that exceed even the most cinematic pre-rendered scenes of the past.
Central to this leap forward is the use of Nvidia’s latest RTX technology. Path Traced lighting, paired with DLSS 4 and Ray Reconstruction, allows for lifelike shadows, complex light interactions, and highly realistic reflections and refractions. This technology ensures that, despite the advanced rendering, gameplay remains smooth and accessible across a broad range of PC configurations.
Masary Ijuin, engine development support manager at Capcom, emphasized the importance of light and darkness in shaping the series’ trademark atmosphere. “With the latest GPUs, including the GeForce RTX 5090, you can expect path-tracing capabilities that depict light rays using a statistical simulation. This delivers more photorealistic graphics than ray tracing, increasing the immersion of the game. For the Resident Evil series, light and darkness are important graphical elements that enhance the immersive experience. Light flickering in corridors, red lamps glowing faintly in the dark, a lighter illuminating the way ahead—these kinds of visuals are essential to the experience of fear,” Ijuin explained.
He further noted that advancements in how multiple shadows are generated, along with the refined handling of delicate glass reflections and refractions, mark a significant step forward. According to Ijuin, the collaboration with Nvidia is also focused on ensuring the game runs well on entry-level hardware, broadening access to players who may not own the latest GPUs.
First announced at Summer Game Fest 2025, Resident Evil Requiem introduces a new protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who is tasked with investigating a string of unexplained deaths at a mysterious hotel. Capcom has confirmed that the game will launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.
