Resident Evil Requiem Live-Action Short Film Released

Capcom has released a live-action promotional short film for Resident Evil Requiem, offering a cinematic glimpse into the early hours of the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City. The short, titled Resident Evil Requiem – Evil Has Always Had A Name, arrives ahead of the game’s worldwide launch on February 27, 2026.

The film is positioned as a prequel-style piece that revisits the final, desperate moments of Raccoon City before its collapse. It stars Maika Monroe as a mother who becomes trapped inside the city during the outbreak while trying to survive alongside her daughter. The narrative focuses on their struggle as the situation rapidly deteriorates, capturing the transition from confusion to full-scale horror.

Capcom describes the short as a way to set the tone for the upcoming game, emphasizing the phrase, “Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living.” The video aligns closely with the franchise’s classic imagery, featuring visual callbacks to iconic Resident Evil creatures, including the Licker and Nemesis, among others.

The short film concludes on a grim note, with the mother shown after having turned into a zombie and subsequently being “secured” by mysterious armed personnel. The ending reinforces the hopelessness of the situation in Raccoon City and mirrors the bleak tone traditionally associated with the series’ early entries.

Resident Evil Requiem is a survival horror title developed and published by Capcom and serves as the ninth mainline installment in the franchise. Built using the RE Engine, the game features a dual-protagonist structure that follows Leon S. Kennedy and FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak survivor Alyssa Ashcroft. The story centers on an investigation into the ruins of Raccoon City in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Gameplay supports both first-person and third-person perspectives and is designed to balance two styles of play. Grace’s segments focus on slower-paced, puzzle-oriented survival horror, while Leon’s sections emphasize higher-intensity, action-driven encounters.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The release coincides with the franchise’s 30th anniversary, positioning the short film as a thematic introduction to Capcom’s next chapter in survival horror.
