Capcom has shared new details on how Resident Evil Requiem takes advantage of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro hardware, offering insight into controller integration, visual fidelity, and performance targets. The information comes from an interview with PlayStation Blog featuring Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi.
When asked how the game utilizes PS5 and PS5 Pro features, Nakanishi highlighted extensive use of the DualSense controller’s advanced functionality. “We used the DualSense’s haptics to simulate the sensation of being bitten or the click of a specific trigger,” he said. He further explained that these features extend beyond combat interactions, adding, “We even used the controller’s speaker and haptics for a puzzle involving a jewelry box—you can ‘feel’ the gems sliding around inside.”
Nakanishi also outlined the technical enhancements available on PS5 Pro. “On PS5 Pro, you can play in 4K at 60fps with full Ray Tracing,” he stated. For players prioritizing higher frame rates, he added, “If you prefer performance, you can hit up to 120fps (averaging 90fps). The fluidity of the high frame rate makes the world feel much more convincing and ‘solid.’”
Resident Evil Requiem is a survival horror title developed and published by Capcom and represents the ninth mainline entry in the Resident Evil franchise. Built using the RE Engine, the game is positioned as a commemorative release celebrating the series’ 30th anniversary.
The story follows dual protagonists, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy, as they investigate bioterrorism-related incidents across the Midwest and within the ruins of Raccoon City, roughly 30 years after the city’s destruction. This dual-character approach supports varied perspectives on the unfolding events and ties into the game’s broader narrative scope.
From a gameplay standpoint, Resident Evil Requiem features a hybrid perspective system that allows players to switch between first-person and third-person viewpoints. The design places an emphasis on traditional resource management and atmospheric horror, signaling a deliberate focus on tension, limited supplies, and environmental storytelling.
Resident Evil Requiem is currently scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2.
