Resident Evil Requiem Rated M, ESRB Details Revealed

Resident Evil Requiem has been officially rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, revealing its mature content descriptors.

According to the ESRB listing, Resident Evil Requiem is rated M for Mature 17+ and is coming to Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series consoles. The rating includes the content descriptors Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Strong Language, along with a notice for In-Game Purchases.

The ESRB rating summary describes Resident Evil Requiem as a survival horror game in which players assume the role of an FBI analyst and a special agent as they investigate mysterious deaths. Gameplay is presented from both first-person and third-person perspectives, with players exploring various environments while battling zombies and mutated monsters.

Combat involves the use of pistols, shotguns, explosives, and chainsaws. The summary notes that players can dismember and decapitate enemies, and that monsters and zombies leave large blood stains and body parts scattered throughout the environment. Some locations are said to depict corpses with exposed entrails and viscera.

Cutscenes are also described as featuring intense depictions of violence and gore. Examples provided include a close-up image of a woman stabbed through the throat, a man having his throat slit, a zombie stabbed in the eye, bodies being ground up by a grinder, a woman impaled in the chest by a chainsaw, and soldiers being dismembered and decapitated by enemy fire.

Resident Evil Requiem is an upcoming survival horror title developed and published by Capcom and serves as the ninth mainline installment in the Resident Evil franchise. Built using Capcom’s RE Engine, the game commemorates the series’ 30th anniversary.

The title features a dual-protagonist structure that alternates between series veteran Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. The story is set approximately 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City and follows the two characters as they investigate bioterrorism incidents involving former Umbrella scientist Victor Gideon.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
