The long-anticipated Resident Evil Requiem continues to generate intense discussion, with new details emerging from established community figure AestheticGamer, who is also known as Dusk Golem. In a series of social media posts, the insider suggested that Capcom currently has at least one piece of downloadable content in active development for the upcoming survival horror title. The upcoming DLC is expected to feature Alyssa, reinforcing speculation that Capcom aims to broaden Requiem’s narrative through post-launch content, which is an exciting proposition. Dusk Golem initially noted, “There’s definitely at least one DLC for Resident Evil Requiem in development right now. I’ve heard about it a few times, believe it stars Alyssa.”
These updates precede the game’s confirmed launch date of February 27, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. As the ninth mainline entry in the franchise, Resident Evil Requiem takes place three decades following the original Biohazard outbreak. Players assume the role of Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst tasked with investigating mysterious deaths within the derelict Wrenwood Hotel, located near the ruins of Raccoon City. The design signals a clear return to classic survival horror elements, placing a heavier emphasis on exploration, puzzle-solving, and evasion. It will also feature the innovative ability for players to freely toggle between first-person and third-person perspectives, an unprecedented option in this manner.
Alongside the DLC confirmation, the insider provided crucial context regarding the long and evolving development history that preceded Requiem. Responding to inquiries about earlier concepts, Dusk Golem elaborated on the path to the current design. He explained that a prior iteration, referred to as Resident Evil 8.5, or “Apocalypse,” was initially greenlit in 2017. This project began as a cooperative online multiplayer experience, meant to be the opposite of the critically acclaimed, though initially commercially slow, Resident Evil 7. The development then shifted to become an early version of Resident Evil 9 in 2019, but the project was eventually completely scrapped sometime between late 2020 or early 2021, and the current version of Requiem then assumed the RE9 title completely.
Further details described the abandoned Apocalypse iteration as an open-world co-op experience set on a fictional island inspired by Singapore, featuring four playable characters, including franchise mainstays Leon and Jill. This older version has reportedly had small clips already released by Capcom. The community’s intense interest in Leon S. Kennedy’s presence in Requiem prompted further insight into the character’s appearance in the upcoming title. The insider confirmed that previous rumors regarding an “Eyepatch” image and a Sony page description are fake. When describing Leon’s look, he cited an earlier description: “His hair’s greying, he starts off wearing a black jacket (I wont be surprised if he loses it eventually as that’s an on-going bit in the RE games), he’s unshaven and more rugged. But I mean, he’s still Leon.”
The discussion also briefly touched upon expected bonus modes. While Dusk Golem currently lacks insider information on a dedicated mode such as Mercenaries, he expressed strong confidence that one will exist. This expectation is rooted in the fact that literally every other mainline Resident Evil game have included such a feature, even if added post-launch.
