Resident Evil Requiem appears to be experiencing strong demand in Japan, with reports suggesting that physical copies are becoming difficult to find at retail. According to series enthusiast Alex Aniel, the Nintendo Switch 2 version in particular has sold out at several major game shops.
The apparent shortage comes shortly after the game debuted near the top of Japan’s physical sales charts. According to Famitsu data, the PlayStation 5 version launched in first place with 155,373 units sold during its opening week. The Nintendo Switch 2 version followed in second place with 38,793 units sold.
The strong retail performance highlights the continued popularity of the Resident Evil franchise in its home market. The game has also performed well globally, reportedly surpassing five million units sold since release. Due to the strong demand, its physical copies were in short supply at retail stores like Amazon.
Resident Evil Requiem launched on February 27, 2026, as the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s long-running survival horror series. Known as Biohazard Requiem in Japan, the game was released to coincide with the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
The title is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, PC through Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Built on Capcom’s RE Engine, the game introduces a dual protagonist structure featuring veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy alongside newcomer Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst investigating a series of mysterious incidents linked to survivors of the Raccoon City disaster.
