Capcom used its Tokyo Game Show 2025 stage presentation to provide fresh details about Resident Evil Requiem, the next mainline entry in the iconic survival horror franchise. Fans tuning into the live show were treated to developer commentary, a recap trailer, and new gameplay insights that highlighted the upcoming title’s characters, setting, and design approach.
According to translations shared by Resident Evil historian Alex Aniel, the presentation confirmed again that Requiem will introduce a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent who also happens to be the daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft. Grace’s personality is described as easily frightened and socially awkward, making her a less traditional Resident Evil lead. The story begins in a hotel where a string of unusual deaths has taken place, and as the investigation unfolds, Grace becomes entangled in another outbreak tied to the infamous Raccoon City legacy.
Director Kōshi Nakanishi noted that the game is being designed with both new players and longtime fans in mind, featuring multiple difficulty levels to adjust the level of challenge. Enemies in Requiem are still considered zombies, though their appearance and behaviors deviate from past iterations. Developers emphasized that these creatures will mutate during encounters, requiring players to adapt their strategies on the fly.
Producer Masato Kumazawa elaborated that the team aims to maintain a strong horror focus throughout the game. Meanwhile, Aniel pointed out that while Alyssa Ashcroft’s role was addressed, no mention was made of her past appearance in Resident Evil Outbreak.
Resident Evil Requiem will release day and date across all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Capcom explained that the Switch 2 porting process proved smoother than expected, enabling them to bring the title to the system without delay. On the same day, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition will also arrive on Switch 2.
Originally unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2025, Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch worldwide on February 27, 2026.
