Resident Evil Requiem made a strong debut in February 2026, emerging as the best-selling game of the year so far in the United States, according to Circana data shared by analyst Mat Piscatella. The title led monthly charts across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, helping drive total industry spending to approximately $4.6 billion for the month.

Overall spending showed modest growth compared to February 2025, rising by around 1%. Video game content spending reached $4.0 billion, remaining largely flat year over year. Growth in subscription services played a key role in offsetting declines in other segments, with non-mobile subscriptions increasing by 27% compared to the same period last year.

Resident Evil Requiem’s launch performance stood out, with Piscatella noting that its launch week dollar sales were more than 60% higher than Resident Evil Village, while unit sales increased by over 40%. Alongside its monthly success, the title also secured the top spot in year to date rankings.

Behind it, NBA 2K26 and Call of Duty Black Ops 7 occupied the second and third positions for February, while Minecraft continued its consistent performance in fourth place. Helldivers II showed a notable jump, climbing to fifth from fifteenth in January. New entries also made an impact, including Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, which debuted at seventh, as well as Mario Tennis Fever, God of War Sons of Sparta, My Hero Academia All’s Justice, and Resident Evil Generation Pack, appearing further down the top 20.

On a year-to-date basis, Resident Evil Requiem leads the market, followed by NBA 2K26 and Call of Duty Black Ops 7. Madden NFL 26 and Minecraft round out the top five, while newer releases such as Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and Code Vein II have also entered the rankings.

Hardware spending delivered one of the stronger gains in February, increasing 22% year over year to $326 million. Nintendo Switch 2 was a major driver of that growth, although PlayStation 5 continued to lead the market in both unit and dollar sales. Switch 2 ranked second across both measures and is currently tracking 45% ahead of the original Switch over the same period in its lifecycle.

Additional movement was seen across individual titles and platforms. Diablo II Resurrected surged to 13th place from 195th in January, driven by the release of its Infernal Edition on Steam. DOOM The Dark Ages also climbed significantly on PC storefront charts, rising to ninth following promotional pricing.

Mobile gaming trends showed some shifts as well. According to Sensor Tower, MONOPOLY GO retained the top position, while Pokémon GO re-entered the top ten with a sharp increase in engagement. Bryan Isagholian of Sensor Tower said, “Pokémon GO shot up in the ranks, breaking into the top 10 again with 61% revenue growth MoM and knocking Free Fire out of the top 10. This is likely due to the Road to Kalos event being launched late February.”

Across the broader market, total spending reached $4.557 billion for February, with year to date spending climbing to $9.256 billion, up 2% year over year. While growth remains relatively measured, the data points to a stable market supported by major new releases, recurring revenue from subscriptions, and continued demand for established titles.
