Resident Evil Requiem has delivered a larger UK physical launch than both Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village, according to The Game Business Editor in Chief and Co-Founder Christopher Dring.
Sharing early data on X, Dring wrote, “Obviously UK physical game sales are hardly representative of anything, but Resident Evil Requiem had a much bigger UK physical launch than the RE 4 Remake and RE Village. Capcom has done it again.” The comment suggests Capcom’s latest mainline entry has outperformed its immediate predecessors in the region, at least in terms of boxed sales during launch week.
Dring also addressed performance on Nintendo Switch 2. “I’ve been fascinated to see how Resident Evil Requiem would fare on Switch 2. UK physical data is in, and it hasn’t done huge numbers on Switch 2. But it did more in its first week than Mario Tennis Fever. It’s broadly the same as what Cyberpunk 2077 did last year (physical).” While the Switch 2 version did not post standout figures, the comparison indicates a competitive debut relative to other third-party releases on the platform.
Resident Evil Requiem, officially designated as Resident Evil 9, launched worldwide on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Developed using Capcom’s RE Engine, the title follows Leon S. Kennedy and FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as they return to the ruins of Raccoon City. The game features a Dual Style structure that blends first-person stealth-driven horror with third-person action segments.
Although UK physical sales represent only a portion of the overall market, the early figures indicate a strong start for Capcom’s latest entry in one of its most established franchises.
