Resident Evil Requiem Update 1.11 Reportedly Downgrades Ray Tracing on PS5 Pro

A new technical analysis suggests that Resident Evil Requiem update 1.11 may have reduced certain visual features on PS5 Pro, particularly in areas that previously used ray tracing.

According to the analysis, the update appears to disable ray tracing in the opening area of Raccoon City on PS5 Pro. Earlier versions of the game used ray-traced global illumination in that location, but the feature now seems to be absent following the update.

The change does not appear to affect every location in the game. Later areas, such as the R.D.P. and ARK, reportedly remain visually unchanged, with no obvious differences compared to previous versions of the game.

The removal of ray tracing in the affected areas primarily impacts global illumination. The analysis notes that ray tracing previously generated visible noise in certain scenes, which may have contributed to the change. As a result, some environments can appear cleaner after the update, particularly in darker locations or areas with heavy environmental occlusion.

However, the differences are not always viewed as improvements. In some scenes, such as indirect lighting on Leon’s character model, the absence of ray tracing can make lighting look less natural compared to earlier versions of the game.

It remains unclear whether this change was intentional or the result of a technical issue introduced in update 1.11. If it is a bug, it may be addressed in a future patch.

Resident Evil Requiem launched on February 27, 2026, as the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s long-running survival horror franchise. The game features two playable protagonists, allowing players to alternate between veteran agent Leon S Kennedy and FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft across different segments of the story.

The title is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2.
