Respawn Confirms Apex Legends Security Incident Affecting Player Inputs

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that it is investigating an active security incident affecting Apex Legends, in which a malicious actor is able to remotely control the inputs of another player. The studio acknowledged the issue publicly and stated that work is underway to identify the cause and deploy a fix. At present, Respawn has emphasized that the scope of the incident appears limited based on early findings.

In a statement shared by the studio, Respawn said, “We are aware of an active security incident where a bad actor is able to control the inputs of another player remotely in Apex Legends.” The developer clarified that its investigation is ongoing and that additional information will be provided once available. The acknowledgment confirms that the issue is not isolated and is being treated as a priority.

Respawn also addressed concerns regarding the severity of the exploit. According to the studio, “Based on our initial investigation, we have not identified evidence that suggests the bad actors can install or execute code as in the case of an RCE or injection attack.” This distinction is significant, as it indicates that, so far, there is no evidence pointing to remote code execution or similar forms of deeper system compromise.

The statement concluded with an assurance that remediation efforts are already in progress. “We are actively working on a solution and will update you when we have more information,” Respawn said. While no timeline has been provided, the wording suggests that further updates will follow as the investigation progresses and fixes are prepared.

Apex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment, has been live since its surprise launch in February 2019 and remains one of the studio’s most active live service titles. The game is currently available across a wide range of platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
