RGG Reveals New Gameplay Systems for Virtua Fighter Project at TGS 2025

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has revealed new information on the upcoming entry in the Virtua Fighter series, provisionally titled the New Virtua Fighter Project. The update came during a presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2025, where the studio outlined battle systems, gameplay rules, and a teaser of the title now available in archived form.

The game will include two distinct rulesets designed to appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers. The Standard rule set maintains traditional series conventions, with matches won through either health depletion or ring-outs, typically requiring three rounds for victory. In contrast, a new mode called Uprising introduces momentum-based mechanics intended to add unpredictability and alternative win conditions.

Three new battle systems will form the core of the updated gameplay. The Break & Rush mechanic allows damage to accumulate on specific parts of the body, leading to a break state that carries over between rounds and offers attackers new opportunities to press their advantage. The Stunner & Stun Combo system introduces a fresh strike technique designed to enable fluid combos without the need for complex commands. Meanwhile, the Flow Guard system provides a defensive option that emphasizes fluid animations and pairs with Break & Rush to create dynamic exchanges between offense and defense.

The unveiling of these mechanics indicates that the studio is aiming to evolve the long-running fighting series by adding layers of strategy while retaining its technical identity. However, RGG has not yet confirmed a release window or platforms for the New Virtua Fighter Project.
