Riot Games Accidentally Leaks 2XKO Character Blitzcrank Ahead of Closed Beta

by Ali Haider

Riot Games appears to have accidentally confirmed Blitzcrank as the next playable fighter in 2XKO, its upcoming team-based fighting game based on League of Legends. The reveal surfaced not through a flashy trailer or official blog post, but via Riot’s own support site, where references to the character briefly appeared before being noticed by fans.

The discovery is not entirely surprising. Blitzcrank was already listed in an earlier roster leak from a few years ago, and so far every name from that list has eventually lined up with official announcements. Fans of the franchise are now pointing to the mechanical golem as the grappler archetype for the launch lineup, filling the heavy-hitting role many fighting games include.

2XKO is shaping up as Riot’s next major entry into the fighting game space, scheduled for release in 2025 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. At launch, the game will feature ten playable champions, including Ahri, Braum, Darius, Ekko, Illaoi, Jinx, Yasuo, and Vi. Each character brings unique movesets and assist mechanics designed for 2v2 combat. While Katarina was featured in early footage, developers later confirmed she will not be included in the launch roster.

The timing of the Blitzcrank leak coincides with Riot preparing to open the final closed beta phase. Beginning September 9, the beta will be available exclusively on PC and will allow both new and returning players to test the latest build. Riot confirmed that those who participated in Alpha Labs 1 or 2 will be granted automatic access, while additional invites will roll out over time. Each participant will also receive referral codes to invite up to three friends.

Since this announcement was unexpected, it’s possible that Blitzcrank will be one of the new characters added to the upcoming closed beta. An official announcement should be made soon, so we won’t have to wait much longer for clarification.
