Rockstar Games Confirms Grand Theft Auto VI Delay to November 2026

Rockstar Games has officially announced a new release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, confirming that the highly anticipated title will launch on November 19, 2026. The open-world action-adventure game, which marks the series’ first mainline entry in over a decade, was originally expected to arrive earlier but has been delayed to allow additional development and optimization.

In a statement shared on November 6, 2025, Rockstar expressed appreciation for fans’ patience, explaining that the extra time will be used to achieve the level of polish players have come to expect from the studio’s releases. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait,” the statement read. “These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

Grand Theft Auto VI is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which includes a reimagined and modernized Vice City — the series’ well-known homage to Miami. The game will follow two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who are depicted as a criminal couple navigating the criminal underworld. Lucia will serve as the first non-optional female protagonist in the mainline franchise, signaling a shift in narrative focus and representation for the long-running series.

The game is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms, with a PC release expected to arrive sometime after launch. Rockstar has not yet announced a specific window for the PC version, though this approach remains consistent with the company’s release history, including Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, both of which reached PC several months after their console debuts.

While the developer did not elaborate on the causes behind the delay, such extensions are common within Rockstar’s production cycle. Previous entries in the series also underwent multiple scheduling adjustments prior to release, often resulting in games that achieved significant critical and commercial success.

Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated titles in recent gaming history, following years of speculation, leaks, and escalating expectations from players and industry observers. Rockstar has promised a “sprawling state” setting that blends expansive environments with detailed urban landscapes, as well as modern-day storytelling grounded in the developer’s characteristic satire of American culture.
