Capcom’s next survival-horror title, Resident Evil 9, will be a major reinvention on par with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7, based on a new rumor.

Known insider and horror game enthusiast AestheticGamer (also known as Dusk Golem) has shared that the reason Resident Evil 9 has been in development for a long time is because it’s a major “reinvention” of the series in the same manner as Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7.

According to Golem, the next entry in Capcom’s survival horror game series isn’t going to play exactly like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8, or any of the remakes, suggesting it’ll have a different playstyle or new mechanics.  He added that the development team is trying new things and that the game is very ambitious. The insider is quite certain that Resident Evil 9 will be revealed this year in 2025.

A few months earlier, Golem claimed that Resident Evil 9’s announcement is set to happen after Summer 2025. He also revealed that Jill Valentine doesn’t play a major role in Resident Evil 9. According to him, the hospital rumor that had been making the rounds was entirely false, and that he wanted to temper the expectations of Jill fans. Furthermore, he claimed that Leon is the game’s central character. He said that Jill may possibly be referenced in an in-game file or something of the sort, but she will not have a major role to play.

Golem was certain that any rumors claiming Jill has a prominent role in Resident Evil 9 aren’t based on reality. He also said that he wouldn’t be surprised if, after the release of Resident Evil 9,  Capcom reveals concept art or early drafts showing that Jill originally had a bigger role to play in the game. The insider encouraged fans to wait for actual news on the game, as nearly every rumor that had been floated around the internet was false.
