Rumor Suggests Drakengard Announcement Could Arrive This Month

by Salal Awan

A new rumor has surfaced suggesting that fans of the Drakengard series may soon have reason to celebrate. Well-known industry insider AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, has claimed that the surprise re-release of the Drakengard original soundtrack may be connected to an upcoming announcement. According to him, the reveal could arrive later this month, possibly during Sony’s rumored State of Play presentation or the Tokyo Game Show.

Sharing his excitement on Discord, Dusk Golem wrote, “So I love Drakengard, I blabbered about it. Someone was kind to share with me the random Drakengard OST drop yesterday is tied to an announcement happening later this month. I wasn’t given a whole lot of context, but I’m guessing they meant at a State of Play or TGS. I’m very curious as a big Drakengard fan.”

The Drakengard franchise, known as Drag-On Dragoon in Japan, began in 2003 on the PlayStation 2. Directed by Yoko Taro—except for Drakengard 2—the series quickly became known for its dark fantasy setting, branching storylines, and multiple endings. While initially considered niche, its connection to the Nier series has elevated its status, especially following the worldwide success of Nier: Automata in 2017 and the remaster of Nier Replicant in 2021.

Square Enix has not made any official statement about a new Drakengard project. However, with the franchise enjoying renewed interest among fans, the timing of the soundtrack release and the growing speculation could be more than coincidental. Whether this leads to a remaster, remake, or even a brand-new installment remains to be seen.

For now, fans will have to wait until later this month to see if Drakengard does indeed return to the spotlight.
