Ryan Hurst has addressed the reaction to Amazon’s recently released first look at its live-action God of War series, which cast him as Kratos. The initial image, shared by Amazon, sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans expressing disappointment over the character’s appearance.
In response, Hurst posted a message on Instagram shortly after the image began circulating. “Don’t believe everything you see on the internet, kids,” he wrote, suggesting that the photo may not reflect the final look of the character in the completed series. The brief statement has since fueled speculation that the promotional image could represent an early or unfinished version of Kratos.
Amazon unveiled the first official image of Kratos and Atreus as production continues on the adaptation. The photo offered fans their first glimpse at how the iconic father and son duo will translate into live action. Reaction was mixed almost immediately, with debate centering largely on Kratos’ physical portrayal.
The series entered production in February 2026 and is currently filming in Vancouver. After undergoing a creative reboot in late 2024, the project is now led by showrunner Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica and For All Mankind. Amazon has already committed to a two-season order focusing on the 2018 Norse-era storyline.
Hurst, who previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarök, takes on the role of Kratos, while Callum Vinson portrays Atreus. The adaptation is expected to follow the somber narrative of the game, charting the pair’s journey to the highest peak in the Nine Realms. For now, discussion surrounding the first look continues, though Hurst’s remarks indicate that what audiences have seen may not be the final form of the Ghost of Sparta.
