Scalpers List Xbox ROG Ally X at Double the Price Amid Confusion Over Pre-Order Availability

The Xbox ROG Ally X has not even reached store shelves yet, but scalpers are already trying to cash in on its early demand. Listings on eBay show the upcoming handheld PC being offered at prices ranging from $2,399 to $2,500, far above its official retail cost of $999.99.

YouTuber Spawn Wave highlighted the inflated listings on social media, sharing a screenshot that featured several sellers promoting the device. Each was advertised as “brand new,” with some tagged as presale units and others boasting specifications such as 24GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. Despite Xbox’s suggested price point, these sellers are targeting buyers willing to pay more than double the intended amount.

This situation comes as Microsoft and Asus have both emphasized the strong demand for the premium handheld. Earlier, the official Xbox account declared that pre-orders for the ROG Ally X had sold out across the Xbox Store globally, stating, “The hype is real! ROG Xbox Ally X preorders are sold out on the Xbox Store worldwide. You can still grab yours at asus.com or find a local retailer on xbox.com.”

However, the picture is less clear when looking at availability outside the official channels. Reports from players indicate that some regions and retailers are still showing pre-orders as open, contradicting the suggestion of universal sellouts. This inconsistency has fueled debate over how limited the initial stock truly is.

The Xbox ROG Ally X, launching worldwide on October 16, is positioned as a high-end option in the new handheld lineup, powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor and equipped with a 7-inch FHD 120Hz display. A more affordable version, the standard Xbox ROG Ally, will arrive the same day at a $599.99 price point. Together, the devices will be available in more than 40 countries at launch, with further regions expected to follow.

With scalpers moving quickly to capitalize on demand and mixed signals surrounding pre-order status, buyers looking to secure the handheld at launch may need to exercise patience. The coming weeks should reveal whether the pre-order shortages reflect genuine scarcity or the usual turbulence that surrounds a highly anticipated hardware release.
