Sabotage Studio has officially released Throes of the Watchmaker, a free downloadable content (DLC) update for their critically acclaimed 2023 role-playing game Sea of Stars. Marking the final chapter of the studio’s years-long journey with the game, the DLC introduces an all-new post-game adventure filled with narrative twists, character reunions, and a circus-themed setting that builds on the world established in the original story. This release coincides with the game’s largest discount to date, offering 35% off for a limited time across all platforms.
Unlike conventional DLC, Throes of the Watchmaker must be manually downloaded from Steam or the respective digital storefronts on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. It is designed to be experienced after completing the main game, requiring players to access a save file in which the end credits have been rolled. Once this condition is met, a message-in-a-bottle prompt will appear on the world map, leading players to the Vespertine where they will reunite with the pirate crew and begin a new side-adventure prompted by a message from Hortence. This leads to a series of encounters orchestrated by a mysterious antagonist, blending emotional closure with fantastical spectacle.
In addition to new content, the DLC update brings full Italian language localization to both the main game and Throes of the Watchmaker, broadening accessibility and welcoming a larger international audience. The developers described this release as a “farewell letter” to the game’s devoted fanbase, thanking players for their continued support throughout development and beyond.
Sea of Stars, first launched in August 2023, is a turn-based RPG inspired by classics of the genre. Set across a chain of mystical islands, the game follows protagonists Valere and Zale, Solstice Warriors who wield lunar and solar powers in a quest to combat evil forces. With its vibrant pixel-art aesthetic, rich soundtrack, and strategic combat system, the game received widespread acclaim and quickly gained a dedicated following.
