SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have begun celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Like a Dragon and Yakuza franchise with a Steam exclusive sale running from December 4 to December 11. The promotion offers discounts of up to 80 percent across multiple titles, including Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, and Like a Dragon Ishin. SEGA has directed players to its Steam hub for a full breakdown of available deals.
The official anniversary takes place on December 8, when SEGA will release Director’s Cut editions of Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 0. These updated versions will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. SEGA stated that players who already own digital editions of the original games will have access to discount options.
In its announcement, SEGA also thanked players for sustained support of the series ahead of the launch of Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, scheduled for February 12, 2026, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.
The franchise began in 2005 with the release of Yakuza on the PlayStation 2, focusing on crime drama narratives set within fictionalized Japanese entertainment districts. The series has expanded into numerous mainline entries and spin-offs, gaining renewed global traction following the release of Yakuza 0 and the turn-based RPG Like a Dragon. SEGA rebranded the series internationally under the Like a Dragon name in 2023, a move intended to align global naming conventions with the original Japanese title. According to SEGA, the franchise has surpassed 30 million units sold worldwide as of 2025.
