SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have released new editions of Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 0 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Like a Dragon and Yakuza franchise. The updated versions are now available on a wider range of platforms, broadening access to the series as it enters its third decade.
The three titles introduce expanded language support for the first time, adding French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian text across all releases. SEGA noted that the updates are meant to make the earlier entries more accessible to players worldwide as part of its larger anniversary initiative.
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut includes several features not found in the original Western release. These additions include new cutscenes, an online cooperative mode called Red Light Raid, and both English and Chinese voice over options. The theme song Bubble, which had been removed from earlier Western versions due to licensing issues, has also been restored. SEGA is offering a discounted upgrade for eligible owners of the original digital release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Steam, priced at $14.99 in the United States, with regional pricing and eligibility varying.
Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the 2005 debut entry, has also been reissued for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Players who purchase the digital PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions before December 8, 2025, at 8:59 a.m. Pacific Time may qualify for a $1.99 upgrade to the current generation edition. A new Steam version of Kiwami will launch on December 11, with further upgrade details yet to be announced.
Yakuza Kiwami 2, originally released in 2017, has also been updated for the latest platforms. Eligible buyers on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One who purchase the game before the December 8 deadline may receive the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S version at no extra cost. As with Kiwami, the updated Steam release is set for December 11, with upgrade information still to come.
SEGA confirmed that save data from the original versions will not carry over to the new editions. The company also clarified that promotional upgrade pricing does not apply to subscription services such as PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass, nor to physical copies of the games.
