Sega and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds fans have hijacked Nintendo’s promotional posts with screenshots from an ad that mocks Mario Kart World.
The official Nintendo of Europe Twitter/X account recently shared the schedule for the first Mario Kart World online event for the region, which prompted zealous Sega and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds fans to hijack the post by spamming a screenshot from an ad that mocked Nintendo’s latest kart racer. In the aforementioned “Come Race on Our Level” commercial for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega told fans to “leave the open road behind and come race on our level.”

The CrossWorlds ad featured an RV in a large empty surrounding, which appears to be a metaphorical representation of Mario Kart World and its open world design. The tortoise may represent turtle shell pickups and the cow is likely a reference to the playable character in Nintendo’s latest kart racer. Cows are also featured in the game as obstacles on the Moo Moo Meadows race track.
The references have deliberately been kept vague by Sega, though the YouTube description for the commercial leaves little room for doubt regarding it poking fun at Mario Kart World.
Twitter/X responses from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds include comments like, “Oh. wow. amaziiiiing. SEGAAAA IS BETTER“, “Sorry Nintendo. Your kart racer needs a roadmap. I’ll be playing Sonic Racing CrossWorlds while you curate one”, and “Mario Kart World is okay, I guess… but let’s be real when it comes to real speed and real racing, Sonic Racing CrossWorld leaves plumbers at the starting line choking on dust.” One Mario Kart World fan retaliated by saying, “Welcome Sonic fans. I hope you’ll be enjoying your 3 million in lifetime sales and about 2 months worth of an active online scene.”
Both Mario Kart World and CrossWorlds are available for the Nintendo Switch 2. The latter is also available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
