SEGA has stated that it expects Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to sell approximately another one million units during its 2026 fiscal year, which runs through March 31, 2027. The projection follows the company’s confirmation that the kart racer has already surpassed one million units sold worldwide.
The sales outlook was shared as part of SEGA’s discussion of the title’s current performance and future prospects. According to the company, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been “highly acclaimed across each rating” and has “sold over 1 million units worldwide.” SEGA clarified that its total sales figures include physical package shipments, digital sales, and sales across all platforms where the game is available.
SEGA also highlighted the game’s critical and user reception. The company noted that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has scored over 80 on Metascore at Metacritic and has earned an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating based on Steam customer reviews.
Despite the strong reception and the million-unit milestone, SEGA acknowledged that the game’s early performance fell short of internal expectations. The company stated, “We recently announced that worldwide cumulative sales have surpassed 1 million units. However, initial performance did not meet our expectations, and we are aiming to sell approximately another 1 million units within this fiscal year.”
To support this target, SEGA plans to focus on long-term engagement. “We aim to sustain long-term sales by encouraging players to enjoy the game over time through the continued support of the title including ongoing release of additional downloadable content,” the company said. SEGA also expects long-term sales momentum through the continued provision of additional downloadable content and intellectual property collaborations.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a high-speed kart racing game developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA. The title introduces the Travel Ring mechanic, which allows racers to warp between 24 standard tracks and 15 alternate “CrossWorlds” during races, dynamically changing the course and environment. The game features a launch roster of 23 playable Sonic characters and extensive vehicle customization through 70 different gadgets.
The game launched globally on September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A dedicated digital version for Nintendo Switch 2 followed on December 4, 2025, with a physical release scheduled for March 26, 2026.
