Following online speculation, Qzil.la Studio has issued a statement addressing claims that generative AI was being used in the production of Sekiro: No Defeat, the upcoming anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The studio clarified that the series is being created entirely through traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, with no AI involvement at any stage of development.

The official statement emphasized the creative team’s dedication to preserving the distinctive appeal of FromSoftware’s award-winning title. According to Qzil.la Studio and the Sekiro: No Defeat production committee, every frame is being crafted by hand, with staff members fully committed to ensuring the project reflects the spirit of the original game. They added that the entire team is “pouring their heart and soul into each and every shot,” and requested ongoing support from fans as work continues.

Sekiro: No Defeat was announced during Gamescom on August 20, 2025, and is set to reimagine the story of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The anime will retell the events of the Sengoku-era Ashina Province while presenting a fresh narrative perspective. The production committee stated that the goal is to deliver the essence of the game in animated form without losing the authenticity that made the original so widely acclaimed.

This clarification arrives amid broader industry debate regarding the use of AI in animation, as many studios face scrutiny over their production methods. By taking a clear stance, Qzil.la Studio appears intent on reassuring both fans of the game and anime enthusiasts that Sekiro: No Defeat will remain true to the hand-crafted artistry expected of a project of this scale.
