Shift Up has officially confirmed that a sequel to Stellar Blade is in development, with the studio promising an expanded worldview and deeper gameplay systems. The news signals the company’s intent to turn the popular action-adventure game into a long-running franchise.
In a recent statement (via Genki_JPN), the studio explained, “We are actively pursuing the franchise development of the ‘Stellar Blade’ IP and are currently developing a sequel to ‘Stellar Blade’. This sequel will inherit the action-packed nature of the original ‘Stellar Blade’ while incorporating an expanded worldview and enhanced gameplay, further solidifying its position as a franchise IP. We anticipate that this will result in even greater success than the original.”
Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae previously revealed that the sequel was born out of early story DLC plans. During an interview, he explained that the scope of the additional content became larger than expected, eventually leading the team to shift its focus toward a full-fledged sequel. While confirming that PlayStation remains a key platform, he noted that development progress has been limited so far, as much of the team was occupied with the recently released PC port of Stellar Blade.
Kim added that the studio is now in the Research and Development phase, exploring how to deliver a vision tailored to next-generation hardware. When asked about timing, he admitted that the team would like to see the sequel arrive in 2027, though he stopped short of making a firm commitment. “Since there are only 3 years between now and then, I can only assure that the development team will do its best and come up with something great,” he said.
Stellar Blade was first introduced in 2019 under the working title Project Eve and launched for PlayStation 5 in April 2024, with a PC version following in June 2025. By mid-2025, it had sold more than 3 million copies, establishing itself as a strong new IP for Sony and Shift Up.
