Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung Tae are teasing a new collaborative game venture.
The official Twitter/X accounts of Unbound, a studio led by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, and Stellar Blade developer Shift Up (via Genki_JPN) are teasing a new collaborative game venture to “create an unforgettable experience” and “change the world.” Both social media profiles have shared video clips that end with the same “Announcement Coming Soon….” message, as seen below.
The post shared on the official Unbound Twitter/X account states, “Come on, let’s go together. Let’s create an unforgettable experience.” In the accompanied video, Shinji Mikami is seen talking to someone. He says,”Together you and me. Let’s make games together that will change the world.” The unknown individual he is speaking to replies, “Let’s do it. I will put all my effort into it.” Mikami then adds, “I will do the same.”
Meanwhile, the video shared on the official Shift Up Twitter/X account shows an unknown individual answering a phone call. The post states, “There are some calls that need to be answered”, followed by the date April 1, 2026. The unknown person seen in both videos is presumably Stellar Blade Director Kim Hyung Tae.
Given the announcement date, we certainly hope this doesn’t end up being some sort of an elaborate April Fools’ joke, as a collaborative game project led by Resident Evil/The Evil Within creator Shinji Mikami and Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung Tae certainly sounds very enticing.
For the uninitiated, Shinji Mikami began his career at Capcom in 1990, directing the original Resident Evil in 1996 and Dino Crisis in 1999. He later returned to the franchise to helm the 2002 remake of the first game and Resident Evil 4 in 2005. His final project at Capcom was God Hand in 2006, an action beat ’em up. That same year, he co-founded PlatinumGames, where he directed the third-person shooter Vanquish in 2010. He departed the studio later that year to establish Tango Gameworks, where he directed The Evil Within in 2014. In 2023, he left Tango Gameworks and went on to create a new independent studio, Unbound Co., Ltd.
