Konami’s remake of its classic survival horror title, Silent Hill 2, features an Easter egg that jokingly mocks the HD Collection controversy.
The remastered version of Silent Hill 2 featured in 2012’s Hijinx Studios developed Silent Hill HD Collection made a peculiar change that didn’t sit well with series fans. The text font of the Silent Hill sign found at the ranch was replaced with Comic Sans. There was no logical explanation for the change. Years later, have been wondering which font the ranch signboard in Bloober Team’s remake would use for the Silent Hill text. We no longer have to wonder, as the Silent Hill 2 remake is out and in the hands of players.
Silent Hill 2 HD vs Silent Hill Remake Ranch Sign Comparison
A screenshot comparison between the ranch sign featured in both the HD Collection version of Silent Hill 2 and the Silent Hill 2 remake can be seen below.
As seen above, the text font in the Silent Hill 2 remake doesn’t match the one found in the HD remastered version of the game. Diehard fans will be glad to know that developer Bloober Team made sure to use the text font that was present in the 2001 original.
An even more interesting discovery is one that was made by Twitter/X user GmanLives. They somehow managed to break collision detection and clip through the ranch at the start of the Silent Hill 2 remake, revealing another great Easter Egg left by Bloober Team. Clipping through the ranch leads to the HD Collection’s comic sans font signboard hidden away among other discarded things. A screenshot of the officially inaccessible area can be seen below.
The Silent Hill 2 remake is directed by Mateusz Lenart from Bloober Team, with production led by Motoi Okamoto from Konami. Original Silent Hill team members Masahiro Ito, the creature designer, and Akira Yamaoka, the composer, were involved in the development. Ito contributed concept art for locations and monsters, while Yamaoka returned as the composer. The game is set for release on October 8, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PC.
