Silent Hill 2 Update 1.004 Improves PC Performance and Fixes Critical Bugs

The first patch for Silent Hill 2 (version 1.004) focuses primarily on technical improvements and gameplay fixes. This update addresses various performance issues, particularly for users utilizing advanced graphical features such as NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. It introduces support for the latest versions of these technologies, enhancing the visual experience with smoother performance and fewer glitches. Steam Deck players will also benefit from optimizations, including seamless controller switching and reduced stuttering.

Regarding gameplay, the update resolves several bugs related to in-game mechanics and environmental interactions. Fixes include issues with enemy behavior, item interactions, and environmental glitches that hindered players’ progress. Specific problems, such as James getting stuck in various locations, disappearing objects, and collision detection issues, have been addressed. Notably, improvements have been made to the final boss fight and interactions with enemies like the Spider Mannequins and Abstract Daddy.

  • Addressed the issue of accessing an inaccessible balcony in Blue Creek Apartments.
  • Improved Abstract Daddy boss behavior and fixed related audio issues.
  • Fixed visual and audio discrepancies in Abstract Daddy’s TV interaction.
  • Corrected a question mark from the Conference Room after obtaining the Cinderella figurine.
  • Resolved collision detection issues with Dayroom walls in Brookhaven Hospital.
  • Fixed James’s reflection not appearing in a broken mirror.
  • Corrected James falling under the map near Laura’s entrance to Brookhaven Hospital.
  • Removed debug numbers from Blue Creek Apartments’ Clock Room.
  • Resolved issue where James could not leave the 3F corridor in the Lakeview Hotel.
  • Fixed the indestructible lightbulb on the 3rd floor of Blue Creek Apartments.
  • Removed a small coffee table that blocked James in Woodside Apartments.
  • Fixed progression issues with the Disgust Path in the Labyrinth.
  • Improved Spider Mannequins’ behavior when attacking James.
  • Added more natural weapon switching movements for James.
  • Resolved triggering issues with the Spider Mannequin event in the Labyrinth’s Fear Path.

  • Fixed overlapping picture frames in the Moth Room.
  • Improved deformation of Nurses’ skirts.
  • Fixed NewGame+ unlock message not displaying in the player’s chosen language.
