Back in October, we reported that Silent Hill f launched with impressive sales of 57,475 physical units during its first week. Not only did this get the game the top spot on the sales chart, it also turned out to be the strongest opening for the franchise in over two decades. The original Silent Hill for PlayStation launched back in March, 1999, with 100,840 units sold in its first week. No Silent Hill release since then had managed to break into those heights again. Silent Hill 2 on PlayStation 2 remains the franchise’s most comparable launch, selling 69,285 copies in its first week when it released in September, 2001.

In contrast, later titles saw progressively smaller debuts. Silent Hill 3 (2003) opened at 46,715 units, while Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004) launched at 34,972 units. The decline continued into the handheld and later console generations, with Silent Hill: Origins (PSP) selling 19,784 units, and Silent Hill: Downpour (PS3) launching with just 12,205 units. The spin-off Silent Hill: Book of Memories on PS Vita and the HD Collection struggled even further, selling under 10,000 units during their respective launch weeks.
