A fresh technical comparison highlights how Silent Hill f performs differently across the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. NeoBards Entertainment’s upcoming survival horror game, which utilizes Unreal Engine 5, appears to deliver a smoother experience on the upgraded hardware, though both versions show distinct strengths and compromises.
In quality mode, the base PlayStation 5 renders the game at an upscaled 2160p resolution while targeting 30 frames per second. However, this visual clarity comes from a common internal resolution as low as 720p, which may undercut the sharpness of finer details. By contrast, the performance mode on PS5 aims for 60 fps with a dynamic resolution reaching up to 1800p. Yet here, image quality fluctuates significantly, dipping to 720p and, in extreme cases, down to 360p, leading to visibly softer visuals.
The PS5 Pro, meanwhile, delivers a notably stronger showing. In performance mode, the system upscales from 720p to a consistent 2160p while maintaining 60 fps. This allows for smoother gameplay without the frequent trade-offs in sharpness seen on the standard console. While the Pro model does not completely eliminate upscaling reliance, the stability of its frame rate, paired with improved resolution handling, offers a more refined experience for players.
Earlier in the month, Digital Foundry shared its impressions of Silent Hill f across PC and PS5 during a three-hour hands-on session at Gamescom. John Linneman noted that the PS5 version ran smoothly at 60 fps during gameplay, with cutscenes capped at 30 fps across both PC and console. He described the build as visually striking, especially with its careful use of motion blur to maintain fluidity. On PC, however, performance was initially less stable until DLSS in quality mode was enabled, which restored a steady 60 fps at 4K resolution.
Silent Hill f is the latest entry in Konami’s long-running horror franchise, though it is a standalone title set in 1960s Japan. Players follow Hinako Shimizu, a high school student navigating the eerie town of Ebisugaoka, solving puzzles and fighting grotesque monsters to survive. Developed by NeoBards Entertainment and published by Konami Digital Entertainment, the game launches worldwide on September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with Deluxe Edition buyers gaining early access on September 23.
