Slay the Spire 2 has reached a major milestone shortly after entering Early Access. Developer Mega Crit has announced that the sequel has sold more than 3 million copies in just its first week on the market.
The studio shared the news in its latest community update, noting that player activity has also been significant since launch. According to the team, players have already attempted more than 25 million runs in the roguelike deck-building game. The developers added that the number may actually be higher, as run tracking began shortly after the game’s release rather than immediately at launch.
The strong early reception has been a major moment for the development team, which has spent roughly 5 years working on the sequel. In the update, members of the studio expressed their appreciation for the enthusiastic response from the community following the Early Access launch.
While many players are eager to learn about the game’s long-term content plans, Mega Crit said it is not ready to share a full roadmap or timeline for major updates. The studio has previously confirmed that additional content will arrive in the future, including alternate acts for Act 2 and Act 3, along with new cards, events, and other gameplay additions.
In the meantime, the developers are focusing on improving the current Early Access build based on player feedback and gameplay data. The team noted that community input has already helped address certain technical problems, including softlock issues encountered by some players. Ongoing balance adjustments will also continue as the developers monitor player strategies and performance data.
Several new features are already planned for upcoming updates. These include a redesigned badge and scoring system, a friends-only leaderboard filter, and an accessibility option designed to assist players who may be sensitive to certain visual elements. Additional visual improvements, including new art and visual effects, are also planned.
The studio is also preparing to introduce Steam Workshop support, multiplayer quality of life improvements, and official Twitch plugin integration.
Players who want to test upcoming changes earlier can now opt into a new public beta branch on Steam. This version will allow the developers to gather feedback on experimental features and adjustments before they are released to the main version of the game. According to Mega Crit, the beta branch will likely receive updates more frequently, while the primary version will be updated once new content and changes are ready for broader release.
