Sonic Team has announced that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will receive its Free Update #2 this week, introducing Joker as a new playable character. The update goes live on Wednesday, October 22, followed by the Joker Festival, a limited-time racing event running from Thursday, October 23, at 8 PM (ET) until Sunday, October 26, at 7:59 PM (ET). During the festival, players can expect themed challenges, unique rewards, and special gameplay events centered around Joker’s arrival.
Developers have also confirmed that the World Match mode will be temporarily unavailable during the festival period. The complete patch notes for this update will be revealed at a later time. Earlier in the week, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds experienced server downtime reportedly linked to an Amazon AWS outage, which temporarily disrupted online play but has since been resolved.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the latest arcade-style kart racer from Sonic Team, released on September 25, 2025. The game introduces the CrossWorld mechanic, allowing players to warp through a Travel Ring mid-race into an alternate dimension track for the second lap, adding a thrilling layer of unpredictability and dynamic gameplay. Featuring a wide cast of characters from the Sonic universe and various SEGA crossover franchises, the game delivers fast-paced, competitive racing across visually vibrant worlds.
The title is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), with a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version set for release during Holiday 2025.
