Sega has officially confirmed the technical specifications for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the Nintendo Switch 2, revealing that the game will support resolutions of up to 1440p with a maximum frame rate of 60 frames per second. The announcement comes ahead of the title’s digital release on December 4, 2025, with a physical edition scheduled to arrive in early 2026. This enhanced version marks Sonic Team’s first major optimization effort for the hybrid console, aiming to deliver smoother visuals and improved performance compared to its Nintendo Switch predecessor.
According to Sega’s latest FAQ update dated November 6, 2025, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will feature a range of display modes that fully utilize the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware. When docked, the game will run at 2560×1440 resolution and 60FPS in single and two-player split-screen modes, while four-player split-screen play will operate at 1440p and 30FPS. In handheld mode, the title maintains a full 1080p output, running at 60FPS for single and dual-player sessions, and 30FPS for four-player splits. These technical improvements represent a substantial leap from the original Switch version, which was limited to lower resolutions and less consistent performance during multiplayer gameplay.
The Switch 2 edition will include all base content and updates released through Patch 2, ensuring parity with other platforms. Players who purchase the physical version can expect the full game on a 64GB cartridge, with no additional downloads required. The Standard Edition is priced at $69.99, while existing Switch owners can upgrade for $10 through the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack. Additionally, content and progression can be transferred between versions, providing a seamless transition for returning players.
Although there will be no Limited Run Games Collector’s Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition exclusive to Switch 2, Sega has confirmed that the Werehog DLC will be available free of charge during the first two weeks of launch. Cross-platform matchmaking is also supported, allowing Switch 2 players to race with users on other consoles. For those seeking expanded content, the Season Pass will enable access to the enhanced Digital Deluxe content originally featured in the Switch release.
With its upgraded visuals, faster load times, and crossplay support, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be the definitive version of Sega’s ambitious kart racer. As the first major Sonic title designed with the new hardware in mind, it reflects the publisher’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-performance experiences across both current and next-generation Nintendo systems.
