Sony Revokes Shadow Tactics Free Claim Nearly Two Months Later

Sony has begun refunding PlayStation Store users who previously claimed Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun for free due to a pricing error, nearly two months after the issue first surfaced. The action effectively removes ownership of the game from affected accounts, despite users having added it to their libraries during the original store glitch.

The reversal was communicated through an email sent by PlayStation Support, which confirms that a refund was processed even though no money had been paid. The email states, “We have processed your refund request on 12 23 2025 09 25 PM GMT in the amount of 0.00 for Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun.”

The pricing error itself became public in mid-October, when Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun could be claimed for free by following a specific sequence of steps on the PlayStation Store. The mistake was first highlighted by Wario64 on X, who posted on October 17, “Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun is free on PSN after a couple steps.” The post outlined how users could add the free demo to their library and then claim the full game at no cost.

Wario64 later confirmed that Sony had begun revoking the game from accounts that obtained it through this method, stating, “apparently Sony just revoked Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun from this freebie claim in October.” This confirmation aligned with reports from users who noticed the title had been removed from their libraries following the refund notice.

The timing of the refund has drawn attention, as it coincided with a separate pricing error involving Cyberpunk 2077. In that case, CD Projekt Red reportedly chose to honor the incorrect discounted price rather than revoke purchases or issue refunds.

Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun itself remains a well-regarded real-time tactics title set in 17th-century Japan. Developed by Mimimi Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment, the game originally launched in December 2016 for PC before arriving on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017. A standalone expansion, Aiko Choice, followed in 2021, and a native PlayStation 5 version was released on October 15, 2025.
