Sony Says Ghost of Yōtei Outpaced Tsushima Sales

Sony has confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei has achieved stronger sales than its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, during a comparable post-launch period, according to comments from a senior company executive.

Lin Tao, Corporate Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Sony Group Corporation, addressed the success of the title while discussing the company’s gaming segment. “In the studio business, Ghost of Yotei, a temple title we released in October, exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time and significantly contributed to the financial results of the quarter,” Tao said.

The executive also noted that Sony’s established live service portfolio continues to generate steady income. “Our established live service titles, like Helldivers II and MLB The Show, also contributed stable recurring revenue,” Tao stated. Looking ahead, Sony expects additional releases to further support the studio business. “We expect that Marathon, which is scheduled to be released on March fifth, will be enjoyed by many users, thanks to Bungie having strengthened the gaming experience,” Tao said. The company also outlined plans for future projects, adding, “Next fiscal year, we plan to release new titles such as Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine, and we intend to enhance our effort to increase the revenue of our studio business.”

Ghost of Yōtei is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game serves as a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima and is set in the year 1603, more than three centuries after the events of the original title. Players assume the role of a new protagonist, a mercenary named Atsu, who is on a quest for vengeance against a group known as the “Yōtei Six” in the untamed Ezo region of Japan.

The title was built from the ground up for PlayStation 5 hardware and officially launched on October 2, 2025, for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. As of February 2026, Ghost of Yōtei has sold over 3.3 million units, providing additional context for Sony’s claim regarding its sales trajectory compared to Ghost of Tsushima.

Sucker Punch has also confirmed that a cooperative multiplayer mode, titled Ghost of Yōtei: Legends, is scheduled to release later this year. The continued rollout of new content may further extend the game’s commercial performance and engagement over time.
