Sony Interactive Entertainment is sending out a “From PlayStation” message to PS4 users, asking them to upgrade to PS5.

PS4 users are reporting (via Zuby_Tech on Twitter/X) that Sony Interactive Entertainment has been sending a new promotional message directly to PlayStation 4 users via the “From PlayStation” notification in the system menu. The message seen in the image below is dated 20/01/2026, and it is meant to convince remaining PS4 owners to upgrade to the PlayStation 5, based on both recent popular releases and upcoming titles that can only be played on the current-gen console.

The message is titled, “You played a good game in 2025.” The line is meant to create a sense of positive engagement with the PlayStation ecosystem before transitioning into a pitch about the benefits of switching over to newer hardware. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s argument is based on a lineup of games, including both existing and future titles.

The message reads, “Whether you’re catching up with hits from 2025 like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ARC Raiders and Ghost of Yotei or getting ready for the most-anticipated games of 2026 including Saros, 007 First Light, Nioh 3, and so much more, now’s the perfect time to upgrade to a PS5 console.” It’s worth noting that both Ghost of Yotei and Saros are exclusive to the PS5, indicating that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s pitch includes what makes its current-gen console more appealing than competing platforms.

Lastly, the message encourages recipient PS4 users to “Scan the QR code” included in the message “to see the latest deals on PS5 consoles” in an effort to generate spontaneous upgrades. While the PS4 has had a lengthy lifespan, this official messages suggests that Sony Interactive Entertainment is becoming more assertive about converting all PlayStation Network users to current-gen hardware.

The PS5 was launched on November 12, 2020. The console has been available for over 5 years.
