Contrary to recent rumors, Sony Interactive Entertainment is not pursuing its own launcher in order to continue releasing PlayStation first-party games on PC, according to a new report.
Bloomberg reliable investigative journalist Jason Schreier (via mrpyo1 on Twitter/X) took to the gaming enthusiast Reset Era forums to respond to a fellow member. The latter highlighted a new rumor that has apparently been making the rounds regarding the alleged rebranding of PlayStation Network resulting in Sony Interactive Entertainment releasing a PC launcher to bring its first-party titles to the platform. According to him, at some point, the company will “say no.”
While Schreier didn’t directly comment on the possibility of a PC launcher, he doubled down on his earlier statement regarding Sony Interactive Entertainment’s decision to move away from releasing major PlayStation first-party titles on the platform, saying that the company will officially confirm its new stance at some point in the future. He speculated that this may happen during its fiscal year earnings call with investors or perhaps when Housemarque begins conducting press interviews and previews for its upcoming title, Saros. According to Schreier, either Sony Interactive Entertainment or the first-party developer may be questioned regarding “plans to bring [the game] to PC and they say no.”
For the uninitiated, Saros is PlayStation’s next first major first-party title. It is set for release on April 30, 2026 exclusively for PS5. It is a bullet-hell third-person shooter, that stays true to Housemarque’s roots while introducing fresh mechanics. Unlike the studio’s previous title, Returnal, which was known for its punishing loop, Saros promises more persistent progression between deaths, potentially broadening its appeal. Set on the world of Carcosa, the game puts players in the role of Soltari Enforcer Arjun Devraj (portrayed by Rahul Kohli), as he searches for a missing colony from another world.
