Split Fiction Director Responds To “Feminism Propaganda” Accusations: “What The F**k Is This?”

The director of EA and Hazelight Studios’ action-adventure game, Split Fiction has responded to accusations regarding “feminism propaganda”.

In a new video on the Fall Damage YouTube channel, director Josef Fares shared his reaction to comments from the game’s various trailers. One comment called out the development team over pushing forward another “feminism propaganda” with Split Fiction. Fares reacted bluntly and sincerely by asking, “What the f**k Is this?”

Fares mentioned that some people are reacting this way to Split Fiction because it features two women in the lead role.  He reminded the commenter that the protagonists in two of his previous titles, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out, were two men. Furthermore, the critically acclaimed It Takes Two featured a man and a woman. Now, with Split Fiction, there are two girls and everybody is complaining. He also reminded the commenter that both girls are based on his daughters.

The Split Fiction director ended his response to the commenter by saying, “I don’t care what you have between your legs. That’s totally not interesting for me. Good characters is what’s important.” So there you have it. Fares and the development team at Hazelight Studios had no political or feminist agenda in play, and the decision to go with two female protagonists was simply because the development team was looking to explore a different pairing from those of its prior titles.

Split Fiction has received universal acclaim from game critics, resulting in an aggregate score of 91 on Metacritic. In doing so, Hazelight Studios’ new co-op action-adventure title has become the first EA-published 90+ scoring game in over a decade. It was recently revealed by Fares that the game takes around 12 to 14 hours to complete, depending on whether the player does all the side content. This duration comes in at around the same length as that of It Takes Two.
