Electronic Arts and Hazelight Studios’ action-adventure game, Split Fiction, is now available for the Nintendo Switch 2, and if you’re wondering how it compares with the existing Xbox Series S version, read ahead.
Split Fiction offers a single display mode on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S, and PS5. All consoles run the game at comparable graphical settings. It’s also possible to run it at similar settings on the Steam Deck. No version of the game takes advantage of Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen and Nanite technologies for improved lighting and geometric detail.
In terms of image quality, Split Fiction runs at a dynamic resolution on all consoles, which tops at 914p on the Nintendo Switch 2, 1080p on the Xbox Series S, and 1800p on the PS5. DLSS is used on the Nintendo Switch 2 to upscale the image to 1080p, while FSR is used on the Xbox Series S to maintain its target resolution of 1080p. The PS5 version also uses FSR to sake the image to 4K (2160p). On Steam Deck, it’s possible to run the game at native 720p and upscale the image to 1080p using FSR Quality mode.
With regards to performance, Split Fiction targets and maintains a frame rate of 30 fps on the Nintendo’s new console, and 60 fps on both the Xbox Series S and PS5. Meanwhile, the Steam Deck can run and mostly maintain the game at a target frame rate of 40 fps.
All in all, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Split Fiction of delivers impressive visuals that are comparable to other console versions. With the help if DLSS, the console manages to deliver a crisper image than on the Xbox Series S. However, it falls short in terms of performance, running at half the frame rate of the Series S version. Nevertheless, it is an impressive showing for a platform that is designed for gaming on the go.
