SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide Leaked Through German Rating Board

A new SpongeBob SquarePants video game, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, has popped up online thanks to a listing from the German USK rating board. This suggests an official announcement could be coming soon. The game is rated for PC and is approved for ages “6 and up,” following Section 14 of Germany’s Youth Protection Act. The publisher is listed as THQ Nordic GmbH, keeping up the company’s long-running involvement with the SpongeBob franchise.

According to the rating board, the game includes “comic violence” and “pressure to act” as its main content descriptors. “Comic violence” means the combat is silly and exaggerated—think cartoonish explosions, over-the-top weapons, and the kind of wacky physics you’d expect from SpongeBob. The “pressure to act” label hints at fast-paced sections, like boss fights or waves of enemies, where players (especially younger ones) might need quick reflexes.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide hasn’t been officially announced yet, but the timing of this leak lines up with some big upcoming gaming events, like the Xbox Games Showcase and Summer Games Fest. These shows are often used for big reveals, and since THQ Nordic regularly appears at them, there’s a good chance we’ll see the game announced soon.

The last SpongeBob game was The Patrick Star Game, a spin-off platformer starring SpongeBob’s best buddy. Developed by PHL Collective and published by Outright Games, it launched in October 2024 on all major platforms. Before that, the most recent mainline game was The Cosmic Shake (early 2023), developed by Purple Lamp. In that one, players took control of SpongeBob as he jumped through different “Wish Worlds”—alternate dimensions filled with familiar faces and locations from the show.

THQ Nordic has kept the SpongeBob franchise alive with remakes and new games, and Titans of the Tide looks like another step in that direction. Given how well the series’ platforming action has been received, fans can probably expect another colorful, fast-paced adventure from Bikini Bottom.
