Square Enix Confirms Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Run at 30 FPS on Switch 2

Square Enix has officially clarified the performance details for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2. The company confirmed in a recent post on X that the highly anticipated port will run at a steady 30 frames per second, ensuring smooth performance and clear visuals on Nintendo’s upcoming hardware.

The confirmation comes after a wave of speculation caused by a report from NintendoLife, which claimed that a Square Enix representative had suggested the game would target 40 FPS on the system. That claim, however, has since been corrected, with Square Enix directly stating the game will lock to 30 FPS instead.

Digital Foundry, which recently went hands-on with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2, praised the performance and visual fidelity of the port. In their assessment, they remarked, “Right now, this is the best-looking thing I’ve seen on Switch 2. Seeing that game running at a stable 30 frames per second, with that excellent motion blur, especially, um, it looked fantastic. It was completely stable. It looked on par — actually, I would say it looks better than the PS4 version of the game. … It’s going to fall somewhere between the PS4 and PS5 versions… The image quality was absolutely superb. Like it really looked great; it matched the 1080p screen. I was really, really happy about that.”

The Switch 2 release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will feature not only the base game but also the Episode INTERmission expansion, which introduces an additional storyline to the main narrative. Square Enix has stated that the title will be available this winter, though a specific date has not yet been announced.

With the clarification now in place, players can expect the game to deliver a consistent 30 FPS experience on Switch 2, which early previews suggest may rival, or even surpass, the PS4 version in terms of visual presentation.
