Square Enix Teases NieR Automata Sequel During Anniversary Stream

by Ali Haider

Square Enix has hinted at the future of the NieR Automata sequel during the game’s ninth anniversary livestream, suggesting that the series may continue beyond its current entry.

According to the livestream announcement, the message, delivered in brief but direct fashion, included the phrase “NieR:Automata to be continued…”, prompting speculation regarding what form that continuation may take.

The tease arrives as NieR Automata has surpassed 10 million copies shipped and digitally sold worldwide. Developed by PlatinumGames and directed by Yoko Taro, the action role-playing title remains one of Square Enix’s most commercially successful releases within the NieR franchise.

Although there was no formal announcement for a sequel during the livestream, series producer Yosuke Saito mentioned that there is “just a little something” planned to commemorate Automata’s ninth anniversary. He also advised fans not to expect a full sequel announcement at this time.

In related news, Square Enix confirmed that NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

Currently, Square Enix has not provided additional details about the teased continuation or clarified whether it pertains to a sequel, update, or another project associated with the NieR Automata brand.
